curse of the jungle drums
After Bloody Gras put Drunken Devil’s wild, immersive nightlife on the proverbial map, I decided to expand the world with a new story and characters, in one of my favorite settings: a tiki bar. Curse of the Jungle Drums was an homage to pulpy adventure tales (a la Indiana Jones) and the golden age of Hollywood. Guests entered “The Hideaway,” a tiki bar circa 1954, shortly after a cursed idol took hold of the attendees, causing them to butcher one another.
Interactive actors roamed about the space, telling their somber and gory tales to an enraptured audience. Mai Tais and Zombies were on tap, courtesy of Lemon Hart Rum (our sponsor for the evening). There were burlesque performances, a live quintet playing big band standards, photo ops, roaming magicians, and tarot readers, creating a truly immersive experience that holds a special place in my heart. The night wrapped up with a live disco set as guests partied into the early hours under the mirror ball.
